I’m fired up right now. Life feels good.
This weekend I’m back on stage for another bodybuilding show with my training partner and friend Todd. Last year he came to me just thinking about doing one, and we ended up doing two. Now here we are again this year, and the cherry on top is that Jay Cutler is the guest.
Back when Jay was at his peak, life was busy for me. I grew up watching Arnold, Dorian Yates, and Nasser. My first show had Dave “Jumbo” Palumbo and Ronnie Coleman as guests. But while waiting for check-ins last night, I started reading more about Jay. The guy just lives and breathes this sport. He was there last night at check-ins and again this morning for prejudging. That kind of dedication says everything.
Seeing how Jay came back after getting knocked down reminds me what this sport really teaches you. You get hit, you get up, and you keep going. That’s bodybuilding. That’s life.
Lately I’ve been playing around with the Suno AI music app. I’ll be honest, my real singing voice is terrible, but this thing lets me put my thoughts and energy into songs that actually fire me up. Clean, disciplined, and straight to the point. It’s been a fun way to push that same motivation I get from training and pass it along to my family and the people around me.
These last two weeks have been awesome. I earned my third degree black belt last weekend, and now I’m here at another show this weekend. One of the guest posers today, Derek Dolgner, said something that stuck with me:
“Discipline in your life will create time and freedom.”
Couldn’t agree more.
So plan your day. Plan your goals. Keep moving toward them one step at a time, no matter how small. Find a quiet spot, throw on some of my meditation songs, think about your next move, write it down, and start small.
Discipline isn’t punishment. It’s what gives you freedom.
